The Battery was organized on April 1, 1863 from disbanded troops of the Virginia State Line. When Gen. Alfred Jackson cashiered Captain Levi in February 1864, 1st Lt. Barr assumed command as Captain on March 22, 1864. The battery was separated from the Legion in June 1864, and remained behind at Saltville through the summer and fall. When James R Love and his detachment of the Legion returned to East Tennessee from the Valley of Virginia in December the Battery was reported serving under Colonel Thomas as late as March 10, 1865.
